Il Magnifico Black Marble
The Il Magnifico Black Marble collection is the fourth edition inspired by Lorenzo de Medici,an emblematic figure of the Florentine Renaissance.Lorenzo de’ Medici was a great connoisseur of marble and often visited quarries to personally assess which pieces he wanted. His love of the arts and particularly sculpture, lead him to become a patron of many artists of the time. Michelangelo, who was treated almost as a son by Il Magnifico, was one of these artists. The ruler of Florence even founded the first European art academy in his San Marco gardens.
This pen is a celebration of his great passion for art and the noble black marble. In this collection, the bodies of the pen are made of Portoro marble, a kind found only in Italy, in the province of La Spezia.
This limited edition pen possesses all the features that have made the Il Magnifico series famous. The use of marble elevates this writing instrument into a work of art clearly in the best Florentine tradition.
The body of the pen is made of Portoro marble, known for its golden streaks that range from deep yellow to honey, and considered the most precious of black marbles. The intense black colour comes from the strong presence of organic matter while the process of oxidation gives life to its striking golden veins. The Portoro marble body of the pen is shaped into the iconic octagonal shape inspired by the Baptistery of Florence, using specific high-precision
machinery. Our semi-precious stone expert craftsmen manually polish each of the components before assembling them. Lilies, the symbol of the city of Florence, are meticulously engraved on the aged bronze parts by our expert Florentine craftsmen. The iconic Ponte Vecchio clip is plated in pink gold and embellished with a black enamel reminiscent of Portoro marble.
