Montblanc Bespoke nibs – A complete guide

As an official Montblanc retailer, we offer a nib customization service (bespoke nibs) on the main writing instruments of the brand.

This service allows you to personalize your writing instrument with unique nibs, handcrafted upon request by the expert hands of the artisans of the Hamburg Montblanc atelier. The variety of nibs available allows you to enhance your writing experience and customize the writing instrument to your personal needs.

Below is a complete list and a short guide to select the bespoke nibs available:

• Customization is achieved by replacing the nib of the selected writing instrument. The pen you select to fit the bespoke nib must be purchased along with the request, the bespoke service is not available for pens already in your possession.
• Nibs vary in functionality, size, type, and cut.
• Nibs can be customized on the following categories: Meisterstück LeGrand, Meisterstück 149, Masters of Art, Great Characters, Writers Edition, Patron of Art. Customizations are NOT available on the Starwalker collection, the Heritage, the Muses and the Meisterstück classique series.
• On collectable pens, the nib engraving keeps the original design with the only exception of the Flex nib which is only available for the standard Meisterstück LeGrand and Meisterstück 149.
• The image on this page illustrates all available sizes. You can also download a writing sample for each Bespoke nib HERE.
• Each nib has different characteristics and features, therefore we offer a personalized advice service to help customers choose the best nib to suit their needs
• The cost of the customization, to be clearer, the cost of the nib, is €1600,00. You must be aware that the cost of the selected pen must be added.
• Delivery time is approximately 3 months. The customer will be contacted when the pen is ready for shipment
• a last and duly clarification, you are not buying two nibs: you buy the pen and then the bespoke nib will replace the regular nib the pen comes with. You won’t be getting both.

The nibs available for customization are:

• Flex: A flexible nib that allows for writing variations from EF (without pressure) to BBB (with pressure).
• EEF: An ultra-fine nib perfect for very detailed work
• OF: A slanted fine nib that combines the precision of a fine line with slanted writing. The stroke can vary depending on the writing angle.
• OM Right: A nib tilted to the right with a medium stroke. The stroke can vary depending on the writing angle.
• M Soft: A slightly softer M nib that allows for slight variation, although it is not a Flex nib.
• BB Soft: A softer, ultra-broad nib capable of varying up to a BBB stroke.
• Italic B/ Italic M: A flat-cut B or M nib, perfect for the classic Italic style.
• Ballpoint BB/M: A unique nib. It has a broad ball at the tip that simulates a ballpoint pen with a very broad stroke. Capable of writing at any angle, it can be easily switched from BB to M.
• Curved Small: Small curved nib, ideal for calligraphy styles such as Copperplate, Spencerian, and variations.
• Curved Large: Same as the previous one, but larger in size.
• Signature Small: A calligraphy nib with a 2 mm cut. Extremely versatile, its primary use is for signatures, hence its name.
• Signature Medium: A calligraphy nib with a 3.2 mm cut. Extremely versatile, its primary use is for signatures, hence its name.
• Signature Large: A calligraphy nib with a 5 mm cut. Extremely versatile, its primary use is for signatures, hence its name.
• Calligraphy Oblique Left: An oblique calligraphy nib angled to the left, perfect for right-handed writers with good handedness.
• Calligraphy Straight: A calligraphy nib with a straight, broad edge.
• Calligraphy Oblique Right: Similar to the Calligraphy Oblique Left, but angled to the right, making it perfect for left-handed writers.
• Doubleline: Also called a Twinline, this nib creates two parallel lines with a single stroke, one wider and the other thinner, perfect for ornate and original lettering.
